Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) is a renewable energy technology that utilizes solar energy to convert light energy into heat energy, which is then converted into electrical energy. The following is the working principle of solar thermal power generation:
1. Collection of solar energy: Solar thermal power generation systems first require large-area mirrors or concentrators to collect solar energy. These mirrors or concentrators concentrate sunlight onto a focal point, producing extremely high light intensity.
2. Heat generation: At the focal point, the concentration of light will cause a heated medium (usually oil or salt) to heat up. This heated medium is called a thermal medium, and its temperature will rapidly rise to high temperatures.
3. Thermal storage: The high-temperature thermal energy of the thermal medium is transferred to a thermal storage system, usually a hot salt tank, to continue generating electricity during times when solar energy is unavailable, such as at night or in cloudy weather.
4. Conversion of thermal energy into electrical energy: High temperature thermal media are used to generate steam, which is then converted into high-pressure, high-temperature steam through heat exchangers. This high-temperature steam is used to drive a steam turbine generator, generating electricity.
5. Power transmission: The generated electricity is transmitted to the grid through transmission lines and supplied to power users. Solar thermal power generation systems are usually divided into different types, including:
(1) Parabolic mirror type solar thermal power generation system: This system uses parabolic mirrors to focus sunlight on a heat collection tube, and the heat medium flowing inside the heat collection tube is heated and used for power generation.
(2) Tower type solar thermal power generation system: This system uses a high tower where sunlight is concentrated onto a collector at the top of the tower. The thermal media is heated by a collector and then transferred to a ground level hot salt tank for storage and power generation.
(3) Hybrid type of parabolic mirror and tower system: This system combines parabolic mirrors and tower structures together to improve energy efficiency. Solar thermal power generation system is a clean energy technology that can achieve the storage and power supply of renewable energy. It has broad application prospects in areas with abundant sunlight and can provide sustainable solutions for energy demand.
