o-Terophenyl, Chinese name: o-Terophenyl, English name: o-Terophenyl, Molecular formula: C18H14, Molecular weight: 230.3. CAS number: 84-15-1
Production method
In 1987, the German Schultz passed benzene vapor through a hot iron tube to study the high-boiling-point products of benzene thermal cracking, and separated out the diphenyl, and themeta- and para-triphenyl. In 1927, Bachmann and Clarke separated three isomers of triphenyl from coal tar and the distillation residue of diphenyl:meta-triphenyl, para-triphenyl, and ortho-triphenyl. In 1926, the United States began the industrial production of diphenyl, and soon, triphenyl was recovered as a by-product.
At present, the production of para-terphenyl still relies on the extraction from the mixed terphenyl obtained as a by-product of the reaction of dibenzene, and para-terphenyl,meta-terphenyl, and ortho-terphenyl are separated by distillation, crystallization, sublimation, and other methods, taking advantage of their different boiling points, melting points, and solubilities.
The production of triphenylmethane in our country started late, and the brands with greater influence at present include: Hangzhou Hani Chemical Material Co., Ltd.
